Rangeland & Grassland

The goal of a Rangeland project is to increase the carbon stored in rangelands and grasslands. SunOne helps land owners and managers evaluate their options, and then participate in the carbon markets. SunOne Solutions is an active member of the California Rangeland Conservation Coalition. Different eligible project types include:

  • Avoided Grassland Conversion: Protocols are in development to incentivize ranch and grassland owners who are willing to put their land in permanent conservation status. These projects can be eligible if the land is threatened by farmland, commercial, and residential development.
  • Improved Grazing Management: Protocols are in development for ranchers who adopt practices to increase their forage and carbon stocks, such as light/moderate stocking rates, rotational grazing practices, and drought mitigation efforts.

We will help you determine if your project is feasible, establish a management plan, design your project documentation, arrange for 3rd party verification, register your project to earn carbon credits, and secure a buyer through our extensive network. Often soil sampling will be required to determine real carbon stocks. There are a variety of accurate methods to analysis soil carbon content and SunOne will organize and manage the sampling process on behalf of the land manager.
