Forestry

The goal of a forestry carbon offset project is to increase the rate of carbon sequestration in a forest or to protect the carbon stored in a forest from development pressure.  Forest carbon projects can earn some of the highest payments per carbon credit in the world, thus there are attractive incentives for landowners to consider carbon market participation.  SunOne has a dedicated team of professionals with forest carbon expertise available to answer your questions about the following forestry projects:

  • U.S. Avoided Forest Conversion: Forestland placed in permanent conservation status can be eligible if it faces development pressure from agriculture, mining, commercial, or residential development.
  • Afforestation/Reforestation: Trees planted on land where forest has not grown for at least 10 years can be eligible.
  • Improved/Sustainable Forest Management: Implementation of management techniques resulting in increased carbon sequestration are eligible for carbon credits.
  • International Avoided Deforestation (REDD): Forestland that is spared from development for other uses may be eligible. SunOne develops international avoided deforestation projects from our Brazil office through SunOne Brazil.

Our team will manage the entire process necessary to register your land to earn carbon credits.  SunOne conducts project feasibility free of charge, and if you chose to move forward we will take on the financial risk of completing the project:  we do not require any out of pocket expenses for developing your project, and are not paid until your project is registered and credits are deposited into your account.

We will help you determine if your project is feasible, develop a carbon inventory, establish a management plan, design your project documentation, arrange for 3rd party verification through a competitive bid process, register your land to earn carbon credits, and then secure a buyer through our off-take network.
