Farmland

Carbon offset projects on farmland are designed to reduce greenhouse gas emissions through implementing sustainable agricultural practices. For example, modification of timing, placement, and type of inorganic nitrogen-based fertilizer can yield a classic “win-win-win” scenario for all involved parties: water quality benefits from reduced runoff, environment benefits from reduced N2O emissions, and potentially decreased input costs for the landowner. SunOne can help producers evaluate their options, and participate in the carbon markets. The two main ways for farmers to earn carbon credits are:

  • Fertilizer Management: Farmers who reduce emissions from nitrogen-based fertilizers on farmland can be eligible.
  • Conservation Tillage: Protocols are in development to incentivize the implementation of continuous conservation tillage such as no-till or strip-till. Planned future tillage of the farmland will generally make the land ineligible.

We will help you determine if your project is feasible, establish a management plan, design your project documentation, arrange for 3rd party verification, register your project to earn carbon credits, and secure a buyer through our extensive network.
